What bra should I wear after breast cancer surgery? – Parkland Medical Center

After breast cancer
surgery, whether a patient has a lumpectomy or a mastectomy,
typically we put them in some type of post-operative bra. Especially after a lumpectomy,
almost all patients develop a seroma, which
is a fluid collection in the lumpectomy cavity. So we like patients to wear
a nice, supportive, soft bra to help with
external compression to help facilitate
re-absorption of the seroma. Typically, after patients have
had about one to two weeks of recovery following
surgery, they can go back to wearing
their normal bra that they would normally wear.
