TWO ORPHAN BEAR CUBS DIE WITHIN A FEW WEEKS OF ONE TOGETHER AT LAKE TAHOE REHABILITATION CENTER AND OFFICIALS FEAR MORE CUBS MAY BE IN JEOPARDY. CBS 13’S JENNIFER MCGRAW HAS MORE. Reporter: THEY ARE ABLE TO MONITOR THE BEARS 24 HOURS A DAY. THEY HAVE 18 CAMERAS. AND SADLY IT TWO WEEKS AGO — SADLY TWO WEEKS AGO AFTER LOSING ANOTHER BEAR THEY FOUND ANOTHER ONE SICK. THE LAKE TAHOE WILDLIFE CARE IN THE NATIONAL FOREST. THEY GET THE BEST OF CARE BUT HAD LIMITED CONTACT WITH HUMANS TO ENSURE ONE DAY THEY COULD ROAM FREE. EVERY BIRD AND MEDICAL THAT COMES THROUGH HAS ONE GOAL, TO BE RELEASED BACK INTO THE WILD. Reporter: THEY OPENED THE CENTER 40 YEARS AGO. IN THE 17 YEARS THEY CARED FOR THE CUBS, ALL 96 RETURNED TO THE FOREST UNTIL NOW. IT IS HARD. VERY HARD. Reporter: THE CUB NEVADA WAS THE FIRST TO PASS AFTER SUFFERING A SEIZURE. THEY COULDN’T FIGURE OUT WHY AND THEN FILLMORE GREW SICK AND DIE. TO LOSE A SECOND ONE TWO WEEKS LATER WE ARED BY OURSELF. Reporter: — WE ARE BESIDE OURSELVES. MAYBE WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY BUT MAYBE WE HAVE BEEN DOING THINGS RIGHT AND SOMETHING HAPPENED THIS YEAR. WE DON’T KNOW. I DON’T KNOW IF WE WILL EVER KNOW. THE FOUR REMAINING CUBS ALSO TESTED POSITIVE FOR THE VIRUS BUT AREN’T SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF ILLNESS. THE FACT THAT IT HASN’T EFFECTED THEM YET IS A GOOD THING. Reporter: HE CAN’T IMAGINE LOSING ANOTHER AND MAKING SURE THESE CUBS MAKE IT BACK TO THE GREAT OUTDOORS. UNLESS SOMETHING ELSE COMES UP NEGATIVE THEY WILL BE RELEASED LATE JANUARY. Reporter: THERE ISN’T A CURE FROM TIME TO TIME THE VIRUS. THEY ARE MONITORING THE — FOR THE VIRUS. THEY ARE MONITORING THE CUBS. YOU CAN FOLLOW THE CUBS ONLINE FOR FREE.
