Straight into the shower, as I’m washing,
found a lump in my breast and I was completely stunned. All of a sudden I was very scared.
I phoned the GP, she referred me over the phone to the One Stop Breast Clinic at The
Shard and they were great, I got an appointment for about three o’clock that day. I headed
to work and tried to get some work done but my mind was all over the place I was so worried.
I was really thinking “this is it, I’m going to have really bad news today”. I work in
the city, and of course I just had to get over to The Shard and went straight in, and
straight up to the waiting room. Barbara the nurse was so lovely and so welcoming that
she instantly put me at my ease. She took me through to meet the consultant and she
stayed in the room with me which was quite nice and he did an exam. He told me “Probably
nothing to worry about” then they called my name, to go in for the ultrasound. They talked
me through what they were going to do every step of the way. They were kind of joking
around a little bit just to put me at my ease. They said because it’s not a cyst we’d need
to take a biopsy just to be sure and it was over really quite quickly and I went back
through to see the consultant. As soon as I walked through the door the consultant said
to me “It’s fine, it’s all clear – nothing to worry about”. I hand’t even sat down. Because
really that’s all I wanted to know: is it good news or bad news. Having the One Stop
Breast Clinic was fantastic – I didn’t know it could be that quick. If it had been a scary
week, or a scary couple of weeks I don’t know how I would have coped. It’s amazing to believe
it all happened in one day, but I’m so glad it did.
