Storm causes hospital evacuation


BRIDGET BENNET TIM: AND I’M TIM SEAMAN. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NOW CONFIRMING THREE TORNADOES TOUCHED DOWN IN SIOUX FALLS OVERNIGHT–IN ONE OF THE CITY’S BUSINESS DISTRICTS. BRIDGET: THE STORMS DESTROYING MANY BUSINESSES AND HOMES, CAUSING A LOT OF DEVESTATION FOR PEOPLE TODAY AS THEY BEGIN THE LONG PROCESS OF CLEANING UP. IN OUR TOP STORY AT 6. THE TORNADO HIT TWO HOSPITALS IN THE CITY–CAUSING AN EVACUATION AT THE AVERA BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER AND MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE AVERA HEART HOSPITAL. THROUGHOUT TOWN, NEARLY 18- THOUSAND CUSTOMERS WERE WITHOUT POWER WEDNESDAY MORNING. DESPITE THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, NO SERIOUS INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED, ALTHOUGH 8 PEOPLE SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES FROM FALLING DEBRIS. “MAYOR PAUL TENHAKEN “I’M ALSO VERY HAPPY TO REPORT THAT AS OF RIGHT NOW WE HAVE NO KNOWN CASUALTIES AND EVEN NO KNOWN SERIOUS INJURIES. IT’S NOT TO SAY THEY HAVE IT THEY DON’T EXIST. BUT AGAIN WHAT’S KNOWN TO US IS THAT NEITHER OF THOSE EXISTS.” THE MAYOR SAYING THE CITY’S 9-1-1 SYSTEM HAS BEEN BACKED UP ALL DAY, AND HOSPITALS IN SIOUX FALLS HOPE TO BACK TO FULL OPERATION TOMORROW.
