Within Gloucestershire Care Services, there
are seven community hospitals. We’ve got ones at Lydney and the Dilke, Tewkesbury, Cirencester,
North Cotswolds, Stroud and us here at the Vale. We have a Minor Injuries and Illness
Unit, which is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm. We have an x-ray department, physiotherapy, a 20 bedded inpatient ward, and we have a very active outpatients department.
Specialist services we provide are dental, sexual health, renal (kidneys), urology. opthanology
(which is for eye care) we have diabetic eye screening, we have the podiatrists (who deal
with feet). We have children’s physiotherapy, speech and language, we have audiology for
ears, as well as an ear, nose and throat specialist. We’ve got dermatology, rheumatology, and cardiology (heart care). The new thing that’s just going to start is that we are going to
have a burns review clinic for people who have had any injuries from burns. Community
hospitals really are about providing care closer to home.
