Rapides Regional Health Talk – Head to Toe Clinic

– [Announcer] Health Talk, brought to you by Rapides Regional Medical Center. (bright string music) – [Narrator] Every hour, seven
people across the country lose a foot or a leg to diabetes. And the Rapides Wound Healing Center is calling attention to that fact with a free diabetes event
on Thursday November 12th. – Head to Toe is an annual event here at Rapides Wound Healing Center. It takes place Thursday,
November 12th, from 8am to 12pm. We provide free screenings and education for diabetic patients. All patients have to do is sign up. – [Narrator] Rapides
Regional Medical Center will provide free foot
exams, blood pressure checks, hemoglobin A1c tests, free eye screenings and nutrition education. – [Center Staff] 60 to 70%
of people with diabetes have mild to severe forms of nerve damage, which leads to an increased
risk of amputation. Diabetes also increases
your risk of heart attack, stroke, blindness and kidney failure. This event gives us a chance to provide a few of those important screenings that these patients may
otherwise postpone or ignore. – [Narrator] The Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention and the American Diabetes Association recommend that people
with diabetes receive a dilated eye screening,
a neurosensory foot exam and a hemoglobin A1c test
at least once a year. Appointments are required for this event. To register for the Head to Toe Clinic, please visit rapidesregional.com
