John Shekleton, MD Types of
preparation for colonoscopies – There are a variety of preps, and it depends on the
insurance that a patient has. The less ideal prep
would be a whole gallon of laxative to drink, and it doesn’t taste great, but it’s a whole big volume. When patients take that,
up to about 20% of patients may have intolerance with
nausea, vomiting, bloating, and they don’t finish the prep. There are newer preps out there that most of our patients can take, and then again, it is insurance-based. Much less volume, they’re
much, much more likely to finish the prep and
have a clean colonoscopy. Want more information?
