ROD: GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE. A PHOENIX MAN WAS RUSHED TO UPSTATE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL TONIGHT AFTER A FIRE AT HIS HOME BURNED HIS ARMS AND HANDS. CHRISTIE: IT HAPPENED AROUND 5:30 THIS AFTERNOON. NEARLY HALF A DOZEN VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS MADE THEIR WAY TO 14 JAY LANE IN THE VILLAGE OF PHOENIX. NEWS CHANNEL NINE’S JOSH MARTIN IS LIVE AT UPSTATE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW WITH THE LATEST — JOSH? JOSH: WE ARE HERE AT UPSTATE WHERE 47- YEAR-OLD THOMAS STOBART OF PHOENIX IS BEING TREATED FOR BURNS ON HIS ARMS AND HANDS. HE IS CONDITION HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED. A WOMAN WAS INSIDE THE HOME WITH HIM AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. SHE WAS NOT INJURED. FIRE INVESTIGATORS TELL US FLAMES MOVED QUICKLY THROUGH THAT HOME ON JAY LANE. YOU CAN SEE HERE HOW BADLY THE HOME WAS BURNED– ESPECIALLY TOWARD THE FRONT. THE FIRE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN– THOUGH IT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. IT WAS RIGHT AT DINNER TIME WHEN IT HAPPENED– WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO GET ENOUGH PEOPLE TO RESPOND. DON FORBES — OSWEGO COUNTY FIRE COORDINATOR: “We had 10 departments here from Onondaga and Oswego Counties. Just more departments, more man power. Somedays it is hard to get a lot of man power that time of day from each department. People are just going to work or getting home from work so it took a few more departments to get enough man power.” JOSH: THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. CHECK BACK WITH THE MORNING NEWS AND LOCAL SYR FOR THE LATEST ON THIS FIRE. LIVE IN SYRACUSE JOSH MARTIN NEWSCHANNEL NINE CHRISTIE: JOSH, THANK YOU.
