MIKE: 51-YEAR-OLD MAUREEN MCPADDEN TOLD A FEDERAL JURY HER STORY AND JURORS AGREED WITH HER VERSION. WEDNESDAY THEY ORDERED MCPADDEN’S FORMER EMPLOYER WALMART TO AWARD HER MORE THAN $31 MILLION.>>I’M JUST COMING DOWN FROM A 3.5 YEAR ROLLER COASTER RIDE OF EMOTION ACTUALLY SO I’M JUST SO HAPP MIKE: IN 2012 MCPADDEN WAS WORKING AT THE PHARMACY INSIDE THIS WALMART IN SEABROOK. SHE SAYS SHE TOLD MANAGEMENT ABOUT SAFETY CONCERNS SHE HAD AS DESCRIBED BY ONE OF HER ATTORNEYS.>>STAFFING CONDITIONS BECAME DEPLORABLE. THEY WERE INEXPERIENCED, UNTRAINED, AND INSUFFICIENT SUPPORT STAFF WHICH CREATED A PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERN. REPORTER: A MONTH LATER SHE LOST HER PHARMACY KEY AND SAYS WALMART USED THAT AS AN EXCUSE TO FIRE HE MCPADDEN ALSO ACCUSES THE COMPANY OF DISCRIMINATING AGAINST HER BECAUSE SHE’S A WOMAN. HER LAWYERS SAY MALE PHARMACIS WERE BETTER TREATED.>>THE JURY CLEARLY DETERMINED THAT WALMART HAD EITHER WILLFULLY OR RECKLESSLY DISREGARDED BOTH FEDERAL AND STATE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LAWS MIKE: WALMART SAYS WE DO NOT TOLERATE DISCRIMINATION OF ANY TYPE AND NEITHER THAT NOR ANY CONCERNS MS. MCPADDEN RAISED ABOUT HER STORE’S PHARMACY PLAYED A ROLE IN HER DISMISSAL. IT SAYS SHE HAD BEEN DISCIPLINED BEFORE AND LOSING HER KEY WAS THE FINAL OFFENSE. MCPADDEN IS READY TO MOVE ON , PLEASED WITH THE JURY’S DECISION.>>THEY CAME BACK WITH A VERDICT THAT REALLY MEANS AN AWFUL LOT TO ME AND I BELIEVE IT’S GOING TO HELP OTHERS IN THE FUTURE. I REALLY DO. MIKE: WALMART SAYS IT WILL APPEAL, ASKING THE JUDGE TO THROW OUT THE VERDICT OR REDUCE THE REWARD MONEY. MCPADDEN LIVES ON THE SEACOAST AND STILL WORKS AS A PHARMACIST

  1. walmart is owned by greedy people who believe they are above the law.what needs to happen is the owners need to start being criminally charged for these things

  2. to bad she won't see any money. Walmart will file appeal after appeal and motion after motion until that women is dead.

  3. The question is where did she lose her key? Was it at the work place or not. If I lost the key at the work place I wonder how. I bet walmart has lockers to keep personal stuff safe and maybe someone got in there and stole it.

    I will never work or shop for walmart. I never trust before finding out how bad they are.

  4. Walmart fired me while pregnant. For clocking out was than a minute too early for lunch. I got a flat tire that day and I was pregnant with morning sickness, so hungry I wasn’t thinking about the time I had clocked in that morning. They fired me. But at other locations when I was not pregnant they overrode all exceptions and other employees. But fired me. I had a really rough year. It was miserable . Walmart ruined so much just because I wanted to work for them. Then they don’t fire others for not taking breaks. Or if they are not pregnant!!!

It doesn't matter what state you live in, every company small and large will look over the laws of that state and put them next to federal laws to see what they can get away with, if they are able to they will try to syphone people's wallets of cash as much as they can and when it comes to discrimination or racism some of those companies will try their best to be in the grey area for as long as possible

  6. Walmart fired me while pregnant after years of work over the same exact policies they don’t fire non pregnant workers over. Dumping my family and I off on tax payers assistance. They protected jobs for those they want but not if it costs them money . Some of us can’t afford lawyers . Walmart needs to be unionized to protect workers . It’s sad . They do stuff like that all the time . But get away with it.

  8. Here’s an update she settled with Walmart for a undisclosed amount in 2017 after the. Court reduced award by $15 million dollars because her state has a cap of $300,000 on punitive damages.

    Be damned to anyone or any other organization that, on any level, hinders OUR GREED (oops….profit). WALMART, in my EXPERIENCE, YOU ARE PATHETIC in your ATTEMPTS to sway anyone that you DO NOT or TOLERATE discrimination….not even a subpar attempt.

  11. I got laid off today at walmart. Iam a pharmacist serving in the company for five years. I encountered racial discrimination many times. When the manager got the chance, I got fired. They say it came from top level management but this is not true

  12. Walmart has more law suits against them than any other store in business. It's illegal to ask for a receipt, but they still do it and try to arrest you for not showing it. Cops are just plain stupid for the most part. They have very little knowledge of the law. Attorneys go to college for 4 years and don't know even a tenth of the laws. They have to research nearly every case. Cops only get 12 to 16 weeks of training and most of that is how to shoot and how to write reports and lie without getting caught.

  13. she looks like she screws up your prescription a lot….oops, I thought it said Tylenol 3 (my bad).  our three Walmart's have women everywhere…more than men.   not gonna be worth $31 million.

  14. I'm a chain retail pharmacist, she couldn't handle the pressure. I guarantee you, that's it. We all have to go through the same stress but don't go around suing our employers. That's messed up
