Obstetrician Gynecologist: Beverly A. Gray, MD

My name’s Bev Gray, I’m an OBGYN
with Duke Women’s Health Associates. After undergrad, my husband and
I were Peace Corps volunteers in Ecuador. And, it was there, we were trying to figure out what we
wanted to do with the rest of our lives. And, one night we were just talking about
where we wanted to go with things and you know, I decided I wanted to go into
medicine in particularly women’s health. My work there was mainly with
women’s groups in Ecuador and so that’s sort of how I decided
to go the medicine route. You know I feel really
honored to be part of women’s lives when they’re going through exciting
changes, sometimes sad changes as well. I also care for a lot of patients that
are going through miscarriage and pregnancy loss. And so it can be an exciting time,
it can be an emotional time, and so I feel honored to be part of women’s lives when
they’re going through these experiences. I think it’s great that we’re able to
follow a woman through her whole life, whether it’s from her first OB/GYN visit
to having her first baby to menopause. I think it’s great that we’re able to
connect with our patients throughout their entire lifespan and
help them through all those changes. I grew up in Western North Carolina
on a small farm. And I moved here for high school,
actually went to the School of Science and Math, in Durham. So I’ve been here for awhile. And I met my husband there, and
we went to undergrad together at UNC, and then afterwards, joined the Peace Corps,
and then came back to this area for med school and grad school. And we just, we love North Carolina. We love this area. So that’s kinda what kept us here. We have a 20-month-old now, so
that takes up the bulk of our time, so running after a little person
takes a lot of energy. So that’s a lot of what we do and
I think having our son is definitely informed my practice about obstetrics and
taking care of women in pregnancy too. So that’s been just an awesome
thing to experience. But we also enjoy travelling and
hiking and being outside and cooking and those kind of things.
