NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER SAN DIEGO, OR NMCSD,
COMMEMORATED ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HOSPITAL’S 1988 OPENING AND REDEDICATION. THE EVENT FEATURED THE MARINES CORPS RECRUIT
DEPOT AND NMCSD COLOR GUARD, A MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY NAVY BAND SOUTHWEST AND A CAKE-CUTTING
CEREMONY. COMMANDER, NMCSD AND NAVY MEDICINE WEST DELIVERED
REMARKS DURING THE CEREMONY. “AND IT FILLS ME WITH PRIDE TO SEE THE ONE
THING THAT HAS NOT CHANGED: CARING FOR OTHERS BECAUSE THEY NEEDED OUR HELP AND BECAUSE IT
WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.” NMCSD’S ORIGINS BEGAN AS A TENT DISPENSARY
AT BALBOA PARK IN 1914, CARING FOR MARINES WHO SERVED IN THE MEXICAN CIVIL WAR, AND IS
