Meet Laura Tryon, A.R.N.P. | UnityPoint Clinic® Urgent Care – Ankeny Medical Park

I’m Laura Tryon, a nurse practitioner UnityPoint Clinic Urgent Care at the Ankeny Medical park. I’ve known from a very early age that I have wanted to do medicine. I was really immersed in healthcare with my father. He was an EMS and firefighter And he was a very good role model for me in caring for people. I looked up to him, and so I knew that I wanted to be in medicine and healthcare, so I went to nursing school right out of high school. I started with UnityPoint as an 18-year-old and was a unit secretary and then a patient-care tech and finally a nurse. I then went to grad school, specialized in emergency medicine and now have kind of come back home to UnityPoint. Urgent Care provides services for you and your family members that don’t always arrive or occur during convenient office hours. Those people that have sore throats, acute illnesses, lacerations, problems that presents themselves urgently. My day is never the same and that’s really exciting to me. I really love people. I like to take care of people. I love the patient interaction. I like to ask a lot of questions. I also like a good investigation because I want to know their story, I want to know their history. I want to know who they are because that makes me a better provider. It makes me– it allows me to take care of them better. At the end of the day, if I have made a difference in somebody’s life, that’s what’s important. I love to spend time with my family. I have two teenage children and we are very sports-minded. I have been involved with the AAU volleyball program in my town for past several years. I still like to play volleyball, and I officiate volleyball and my family I also volunteered for Heinz 57, which is a pet rescue program in Desoto, Iowa. The thing that I love about UnityPoint is that they gave me a starting point. They showed me how to be a nurse and they gave me a foundation of which to grow on and I can see how they’ve helped me become who I am today. I’m Laura Tryon, nurse practitioner and the Point of Unity is you.
