Meet Dr. Viju Deenadayalu, Gastroenterologist with The Oregon Clinic

My name is Viju Deenadayalu and I’m
a gastroenterologist with The Oregon Clinic Gastroenterology – East. i chose my specialty because I wanted to
have a balance between seeing patients in the office and being in a
procedurally based field. I enjoy working with my hands and the
technological advancements in gastroenterology over the last several
years have truly been amazing. As an internal
medicine resident and a gastroenterology fellow, I had
opportunity to work closely with doctor Douglas Rex who is an internationally recognized gastroenterologist and who has really been key in advancing
colonoscopy and promoting colon cancer screening and awareness. I know it was my early experiences and working
with Dr. Rex that solidified my decision to become a gastroenterologist. The most rewarding part of my job is
trying to identify the root cause for the symptoms someone’s experiencing, and then working with them to alleviate
those symptoms in the most acceptable manner. Whether that’s through lifestyle
modifications such as diet and exercise, or through medical treatment. I distinctly remember having lunch with my wife who’s a physician, and we went out for
sushi and it was the time when we were deciding where we wanted to live and ultimately settle, and we devise some
basic ground rules that we could each pick three cities anywhere in the country, you could not veto
the other person’s choice, and you had to make an honest attempt to
try and find a job in those cities. Two of my three cities are in the pacific
northwest, and really we both just found great job opportunities here, and we’ve been very happy about our decision
to move to the pacific northwest. I really appreciate that there many bike
people in Portland, and that Portland is a bike-friendly city. That being said I’m absolutely a car
person and truth be told, I’m a fast car person. My hobbies and
interests outside of the office really center around spending time with my family. I have a wonderful wife and two very energetic lovely daughters, and when I’m not with
them I enjoy running. I’ve been a consistent runner for more
than 20 years and while I don’t compete in races much anymore I still
enjoy remaining physically fit.
