Mako Robotic System for Hip and Knee Pain

The Mako Robotic-Arm technology was recently acquired at Sharp Grossmont Hospital through the generous contributions of the Grossmont Hospital Foundation. This surgery system is essentially a fancy
tool that we are able to use during surgery. It allows me to plan out ahead of time exactly where I am going to put the implants for your joint replacement surgical procedure. And then it assists me in carrying out that
plan with a high degree of accuracy and reproducibility. My goal with all of my surgeries that I do
is to be as accurate with the surgical procedure as possible. By doing so, it allows the patient’s natural
anatomy to be reproduced. When the natural anatomy is reproduced very accurately, the muscles, ligaments and tendons that are around that joint can function as
normally as possible. That allows for patients to recover more rapidly and have better long term outcomes. In addition, the preparation that was done
ahead of time allows me to do the surgical procedure in a less invasive manner. If we are able to disrupt fewer structures
during the operation, that also improves comfort for the patient, after the surgery, and can
speed along their recovery process.
