I’m Mac Abernathy. I’m assistant
professor of psychiatry at the University of Vermont Medical Center. My philosophy of care, considering I trained in both neurology and psychiatry, is of a holistic approach to the brain.
Now, that’s a little bit different than holistic medicine. What I mean by a
“holistic approach to the brain” is I consider both the neurologic and
psychiatric aspects of the patient’s care when I’m taking care of them. Patients should know upfront about me
that I have a humanistic and compassionate approach to their care,
whereby I think that people are more alike than we are dissimilar. We all
suffer in similar ways and I go into my patient care with that approach.
