Kern Medical Center Pharmacy Residency

Kern Medical Center is a 222-bed acute care
teaching hospital located in Bakersfield, California. We’re the only Level II trauma
facility between Fresno and Los Angeles, and we serve a very diverse patient population
both in our acute care hospital, and in our various outpatient clinics. Here at Kern Medical Center we are committed
to excellence: both in terms of patient care, and in the education of tomorrow’s healthcare
practitioners. Hi, my name is Shereen Ward, I graduated from
Roseman University of Health Sciences in 2011, and then completed my residency here at Kern
Medical Center in 2012. The reason I decided to stay at Kern Medical
Center is because of the clinical pharmacy department. I was given the opportunity to head the Reach
Clinic; and the Reach Clinic is a clinic for high-risk patients that utilize the ER often. I work directly with the physician in the
Reach Clinic, we also have a social worker and a dietitian, and we ‘re able to provide
these patients with extra care to help prevent ER visits and also improve health outcomes. Hello, my name is Michelle Nguyen, I graduated
from Touro University in 2014, and after completing my PGY-1 residency in 2015 here at KMC, I was
brought on board as one of the clinical pharmacists. So why did I choose KMC? Because this place
has a big vision for the expanding role of pharmacists, and is truly a place of innovative
practice. The inter-professional and collaboration here
with the medical students and residents, as well as attendings alike, are very invaluable. I use my pharmacists all the time, they guarantee
that the medications are safe, there are no drug-drug interactions, the medications at
the time of discharge are practical, and accessible. Pharmacy residents are also an active member
of the team. Hi I’m Pete, I graduated from Roseman University
in 2015, and am one of the current PGY-1 pharmacy residents. I know that this residency gives me all the
tools that I’ll need to become a knowledgeable, well-rounded pharmacist, because the number
one goal of our preceptors is to facilitate our learning, and to tailor our rotations
in such a way that works best for us. Our PGY-1 pharmacy residency program prepares
our residents to practice at a very high level, in virtually any practice setting. We’re looking for highly motivated applicants
who have excelled not only academically in school, but have also shown themselves to
be leaders, who are committed to advancing the profession of pharmacy, and most importantly
who are passionate about providing direct patient care. If you have any questions about our residency
program, please feel free to contact us, and we look forward to hearing from you.
