I’m a specialist in inflammatory bowel diseases,
and my main focus is in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Although there is no cure for these diseases,
our goal is to have the patient be symptom-free. We can achieve that with medications. In addition, we can offer psychological support,
dietary support, and they are all supportive of our ultimate goal, which is having the
patient in remission — the patient has no symptoms, as well as no active disease. I have experienced many patients who came
with a very poor quality of life, they were not able to go to work, go to school every
day. And afterwards, the most satisfying experience
is to see how we improve the quality of life — how they were able to do their everyday
activities. In regards to our research, we have many ongoing
clinical trials, as well as basic science research projects. So our goal is to find better treatment strategies,
as well as medications. The ultimate goal is to find a cure for the
disease.
