How Mayo Clinic restructured nurse reporting relationships to drive integration

I think one of the most important
tenets for any nursing organization is to assure that the accountability and
authority for nursing is within nursing. And what that means is that all nurses report up
to a nurse, a system CNO or a department chair. It’s really important, because if you have
just the accountability and not the authority, it’s not going to work. Because we are all together under one department, the nurses have a common
expectation around practice standards. We use common patient information, patient education. And so we’ve got that common approach to patients, which really gives consistency
for that patient experience.
