How are uterine fibroids diagnosed? – Frankfort Regional Medical Center

Uterine fibroids can be
diagnosed several ways. Sometimes they are found on
just a routine annual exam when somebody goes in for
regular Pap smear or just their routine physical. You can actually feel them
because sometimes they grow very large in size. Sometimes they are
found on ultrasound if a woman is having a complaint
of heavy bleeding or pain with bleeding, they can be
diagnosed by an ultrasound. And sometimes they’re
diagnosed just incidentally. So if someone has a CAT
scan for some other reason, like back pain or a car
accident or something, you may find them on imaging
studies, like a CAT scan.
