Grand opening held for UT Health Rio Grande Valley Clinic in Harlingen

Community leaders and representatives from the UTRGV School of Medicine celebrated the grand opening of the UT Health Rio Grande Valley Surgery and Women’s Specialty Clinic in Harlingen. We provide services that women didn’t have access to before. So before, a woman didn’t have access to a board certified gynecological oncologist. If she was diagnosed with cancer, she would have to travel to San Antonio or to Houston. We worked hard to expand the capacity to see patients here and to provide some state-of-the-art capability. Thank you so much to all of those who’ve had a hand in developing this new facility. We are in this community, in the city of Harlingen, very, very excited about it. The building originally housed the practice of Dr. Ash Hilmy, who has since joined the UTRGV School of Medicine. The facility, which includes a minor operating room, was built about 10 years ago. It’s been through many a storm and has proven itself to be quite seaworthy. He said he was excited to see the services available expand under UT Health Rio Grande Valley. It’s a two-part mission. One is to provide care for our community and the other is to educate the future generation of physicians, so that’s what we’re doing right here.
