Gender-affirming surgeries are nowadays no longer limited to the genitals. These before-and-after pictures all concern one and the same person. Trans women who start their transition only after puberty have developed male characteristics in most cases. They should be corrected in this clinic in Antwerp. The clinic is specialized in feminization of the face, the body and the voice. The clinic is the only of its kind in Europe, The founder, Dr Bart van de Ven, shows us what’s possible. The hairline is slightly lowered here The forehead: you see the browbone here This was removed here and the eyebrows are a bit higher. In this area you see that there is less bone present. Then the nose, it is made finer and the chin was rather wide and it’s here more V-shaped. The dimple has been filled with a bone implant and the jaw has been narrowed, too. Approximately 200 patients from all over the world visit the clinic in Antwerp every year, because surgical techniques for feminization are uncommon surgical interventions. For example, here hip implants were used to make the anatomy more feminine. The costs for surgery partly are in the 5-digit range. The costs are in fact rather high and many cannot afford this Therefore, I find it unjust that it’s not compensated by the health insurance. In most countries there is no compensation whatsoever in Germany it is beginning, for a part, for example, an adam’s apple reduction is paid back in most cases, but not the other things. I hope something will happen there, because trans women are patients who need help and I believe they should get this.
