Look how much I’m invested to your amusement. Orphan 55 is over, it’s time to react instantly. The Fam takes well-deserved holidays. I’m just kidding, they are going to be attack by latex creatures. After such a huge start, we needed more normal episodes. What kind of fillers people like?
BASE UNDER SIEGE ONES! You know, the ones we have every series, because sometimes they’re good. Is this one better than the basic base under siege episode?
No, it isn’t. It’s a triple disappointment: it’s written by the writer
of “It Takes You Away”, the most inventive episode of series 11, it’s the director of “Spyfall part 2” which looked awesome, and the beginning was on point, funny, with a peculiar atmosphere. I would have like to spend more time in the cosy environment of this spa and with these very interesting characters. But none of them has a proper development. For example, since episode 1, we get that Ryan wants to find himself someone. They introduce here a potential girlfriend,
it works well at first, but it’s rushed. And the other are only sub-plots. The old couple is adorable, we want to know more about them, but no, their story is rushed in 30 seconds, then poof! The mother and the daughter is one of the main plot of this episode but it’s not much developed either. Same with the father and his son. “Dad won’t let me do!”
“My son is too clever”… We want more than this, they were good characters! As soon as the creatures attack, the charming atmosphere vanishes. The creature sometimes look good, depending on camera angles, and they are so lambda. And the turnaround has been seen so many times before in Doctor Who and in every sci fi work. It’s a good turnaround, that’s why it’s so common, but here, it’s not well put in place so it’s not really interesting. And it’s here only to serve an important moral but it’s thrown there without tact. Doctor Who did way better episodes about this theme but here it’s so moralistic that even I, who fight for this moral on a daily, even I was fed up! I can see the parallel between the spa and the devastated surroundings and our modern world, but couldn’t you be more subtle? But let’s rejoice, there’s action and explosions! Sorry, I preferred series 11’s “floppy fillers”. Except “Tsuranga”, of course. And I bought this wig only for this… What did you think of Orphan 55? Did you like it? Tell us in the comments. Don’t forget it’s our personal opinion. If you loved it, good for you,
Doctor Who can’t always satisfy us. See you next week. Until then,
I’ll enjoy this wig, it fits my skin tone. Kisses, Zarbis!
