Community Rehabilitation Centres


SA Health have purpose built three
Community Rehabilitation Centres which are also known as CRCs. The CRC’s are
residential facilities which are located in the community and provide goal
focused rehabilitation to mental health consumers who have
high and complex needs. The CRCs are staffed twenty four
hours a day, seven days a week. The CRCs are part of the ‘stepped system
of care’ which seeks to bridge the gap between community care and hospital care and they focus on supporting consumers
to stay well improve their well-being and build practical skills for independent living. People stay at the CRCs for
varying amounts of time which can range between three and twelve months
depending on their needs. Each CRC comprises of twenty bedrooms each with their
own en-suite. Unit sizes vary and accommodate between one and four adults.
Most units are shared and are single sex. Each unit has a fully equipped
laundry, kitchen and lounge area. Each unit has a telephone and
all are air-conditioned. Every unit has an
individual court yard. All CRCs are smoke free. The CRCs have onsite car parking. There are three CRCs in SA: Trevor Parry Center in the South. Elpida House in the South.
Wondakka in the North. Trevor Parry Centre is located in the
middle of the southern suburb of Noarlunga, approximately thirty kilometers from
Adelaide city centre. It is close to public transport links.
Trevor Parry Centre is within walking distance to Colonnades shopping centre a
TAFE, bowling alley, cinema, aquatic centre, gym, public and private hospitals,
specialist health facilities, library and many sporting and community clubs. Elpida is situated in Mile End
four kilometers from Adelaide City Centre, and is close to Adelaide airport.
Public transport is easily accessible within walking distance. Some of the community facilities
accessible within a short walk include, Thebarton Theatre, several shopping
facilities, including supermarkets, newsagency post office, discount stores, clothing and cafes. There are GPs and mental
health services located nearby. Wondakka CRC is based at Elizabeth East
in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, about forty five minutes from
Adelaide City Centre by car. Public transport is easily accessible
by walking a short distance. Some community activities accessible within
a short walk include, Elizabeth City Centre, the Aquadome swimming and gym
facilities and club eighty-four, which is a psychosocial rehabilitation service
that runs a wide range of drop in a small group activities. GPs Health and community
services can be found locally, most within a ten minute walk. All CRCs provide a safe and
