Central Point Providence Medical Clinic gets new guide dog

A VERY SPECIAL NEW EMPLOYEE FOR PROVIDENCE
MEDICAL GROUP STARTED ON THE JOB TODAY. “GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLIND” JUST DROPPED OFF
AN EIGHT WEEK OLD PUPPY– A GOLDEN RETRIEVER — WHO WILL SOON BEGIN TRAINING TO HELP PATIENTS
AT THE CENTRAL POINT PROVIDENCE OFFICE. NBC5’S NATALIE WEBER IS LIVE WITH MORE ON
THIS SPECIAL PUPPY… NATALIE? CRAIG, KRISTIN– THIS IS PENCE — HE JUST
GOT OFF THE PUPPY TRUCK THIS AFTERNOON. HE’S THE NEWEST GUIDE DOG HERE AT THE PROVIDENCE
MEDICAL GROUP IN CENTRAL POINT. PENCE IS A MALE, YELLOW LAB AND AS YOU SAID
– IS JUST EIGHT WEEKS OLD. HIS LITTER JUST TRAVELED FROM SAN RAFAEL,
CALIFORNIA… DROPPING PUPPIES OFF AT CLINICS ALONG THE WAY.
PENCE WILL STAY HERE TO BECOME A TRAINED GUIDE DOG FOR THE BLIND.
“When they’re here they learn how to behave. They learn different sights, different sounds,
different smells, how to behave when they’re with a blind person so the blind person can
have a job and have the independence they need to live a normal life.”
THIS IS A FULL TIME COMMITMENT FOR BOTH ??? AND HIS TRAINER — BECAUSE HIS CAREGIVER WILL
WORK WITH HIM HERE AT THE CLINIC– AND THEN TAKE HIM HOME AT NIGHT.
AND WHILE PENCE IS STAYING HERE IN THE ROGUE VALLEY, THE PUPPY TRUCK HAS ALREADY LEFT…
CONTINUING UP TO NORTHERN OREGON– DROPPING THIS LITTLE ONE’S LITTER MATES OFF AT CLINICS
ALONG THE WAY. LIVE IN CENTRAL POINT, NATALIE WEBER, NBC5
