Brain Tumor Clinic in Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad

Brain tumour I am Dr. Lalitha, Vice President for Yashoda
Hospitals, Secunderabad. I would like to talk to you about the specialty
Neurosciences clinic that is being introduced at Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad from next
week onwards. We are introducing the service of Brain Tumor
clinic. Now, there is a lot of burden of brain tumors
in our population, be it pediatric, in the adult population, or the subset of people
who have been operated for brain tumors, and now who have recurrences. At Yashoda Hospital, we have eminent neurosurgeons
who have been trained specifically for operating on brain tumors, let them be superficial or
deep-seated. There is a team of a dedicated neuro anesthetist,
who are specifically trained for intraoperative neuromonitoring (INOM). Intraoperative neuromonitoring makes the surgery
much safer and alerts the surgeon when they come very close to vital structures. This team of neurosurgeons and neuro anesthetists
are very ably helped by the team of neurologists, who also have a lot of experience in looking
at the preoperative and the postoperative aspect of brain tumors, a team of neuropathologists,
neuro intensivists, and the neurorehabilitation team, who are also specifically trained for
dealing with brain tumors. So all these facilities are available under
one roof, and we have started with this idea of having a dedicated brain tumor clinic because
we want to take across this idea to the society and to the people who are not yet aware of
other specialties like neuro anesthesia, neurocritical care, neuropathology; how all this can help
in prognosticating the patient, exactly knowing the grade of the tumor, and dictating personalized
treatment to the patient. A patient, a certain person, with one kind
of brain tumor may require radiation, may require chemotherapy, and may have a different
prognosis depending on the histological features of the disease. This is a service that we would like to bring
to all of the people, and we request everyone to look up on our website, to look at the
timing of the brain tumor clinic, and use our services. In this clinic, there will be a combined consultation
by the neurosurgeon, the neurologist, the radiation oncologist, and the medical oncologist. There will also be a neuroradiologist present. We would also like to inform you about the
intraoperative imaging we have in addition to neuromonitoring. The intraoperative 3 Tesla MRI is available
in Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad for the last 1.5-2 years. This equipment and this imaging method has
helped us in doing complete surgeries. The brain is such a small structure, and if
it is a deep-seated tumor, especially in the pediatric population, the surgeon will never
be sure on the table if the complete removal of tumor has occurred or not. So what we do is that after the initial surgery,
we move the patient to the MRI suite, do the MRI, and if there is still a residue, the
patient is shifted back to the intraoperative unit, and then the tumor is completely removed. This would help us in preventing revision
surgeries and significantly contribute to reducing morbidity in the patient. So a comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinic
is held in which the patient can get an opinion from all the branches. This is the service we want to provide all
of our people who come to us with trust and hope. Wish you all a very healthy life. Thank you. [Music]
