  1. Aww I really felt for Claire during that procedure! Having suffered with problems with my ears since I was a child I can't stand to have anything in my ears, even the scope doctors use to check your ears is so uncomfortable for me. Pain in the ears has to be one of the worst you can have as well because nothing helps or relieves it! I hope that the dark colour of the wax was just a one of and not anything else because it's clear poor Claire has sensitive ears and would probably prefer not to have to have that again lol but at least she ended it with a smile 😃 X Claire X

  2. Please Dr. Vaughan go back to your old equipment! This thing is so loud and obviously painful! I feel so bad for the patients. 😢

  3. thank you for being kind, patient and gentle. i get wax buildup in my ears and my doctor used a curette only. i was in tears, it was so painful–and my doctor basically said i was acting like a baby. needless to say, he's no longer my ENT doc!

  4. aww I really like her and the video. I'm sensitive on my back the way she is with her ear. I don't like anyone touching new unexpectedly like when someone taps you to get your attention. thanks for sharing!

  5. Watching Claire wince made me wince! I was scratching my kitty's ear when you made the cat comment…for a good laugh! I hope Claire can hear better.

I think you may be right! I bet it was hair color! Nick Chitty often finds that his patients who are men or women who cut their hair often & short will get snips of hair trapped in their ears causing more wax build up and irritation in their ears. When he pulls the ear wax out, you can see the hair mixed in it.

  7. I have an odd canal, and occasionally need help getting the old deposits out. Occasionally they are almost black, though I no longer dye my hair. I'm an RN and DO clean my ears. Just for those who think these things are due to uncleanliness. I had ear surgery as a child.

  8. forgetting to remove the hoop earring was an oversigh, but the assistant lifting it up to drop it in the cup was funny, plunk.

  9. What a sweet lady! Her ear canal looks very narrow which was probably why it was painful. I have a narrow ear canal too and putting anything in my ear is painful.

  10. She was so brave! And, I don't think she could hear you when you asked her if you should stop. Perhaps your patients w/hearing loss could indicate pain felt using a hand-raise 'scale.' Low raise = discomfort, high raise = OW! STOP!

  11. I see no problem with her earring being left in. Ear wax came out fine. Would've been the same with it out. Good job Dr. V!

  12. Why don't patients take their earnings out before having this done? Who wants all that gross stuff getting all over their earrings?!?

  13. I wish he was my ear doctor. I've had so many ear problems in my life. I've had 3 sets of ear tubes and my adenoids removed. It wasn't until after my adenoids were removed that I stopped getting so many ear infections. But about 2 months ago I went to the doctor, and had both ears flushed out because of earwax impaction. My doctor was very nice as well. My one ear didn't hurt at all. But the second one had me in tears and hurt more than I've ever had it hurt. After getting the wax out my ear was bleeding. Not a fun experience. Never is with my ears. Ugh.

  14. More often then not I have dark colored earwax majority of my life when I cleaned my ears. Never knew it was cause for concern. I've had my ears cleaned with that water gun thing before and man IT HURTS.

  15. IDK if I am the only one who does this, but, I always catch myself moving my head around my screen trying to get a better look! I wish it worked…

  16. Are you able to tell if a person has just earwax or if it's a cholesteatoma? I used to get those in the pathology lab all the time and they looked so painful.

  17. When the doctor uses that machine to flush the ear out it always seems to me as if it must sound to the patient like a jackhammer is going on inside his head.  Eww.  Cringe-worthy!

  18. Good to know I'm not the only one who has trouble being comfortable when someone tries to clean out my plugged ears. I am NEVER comfortable no matter what the doctors do. The insides of the ear is just too sensitive. I no longer want water in my ears because it hurts too much. Picking OMG, it feels like someone is trying to puncher me through my ear. Suction is okay but boy when the ear becomes clog, good lord ow. Too many videos on YouTube make it look easy, but for some of us, it's one of the most painful thing ever!

  19. I think the doctor needs to give his patients an out before he starts doing anything. Ask them if the pain gets to be too much they can hold up a hand. I am sure sometimes they don't hear him when he asks if you want him to stop or is he hurting them.

  20. Bless her heart!!! I had my ears irrigated back in college. 20 odd years ago. It took about 4 visits for them to finally get it out and it was a huge chunk'o'wax. It was painful and I ended up missing a couple of days of work because it jacked with my equilibrium and made me nauseous.

  21. Can you PLEASE have them take off their earrings before you start the irrigation? Who wants to clean ear wax and debris from their earrings?

  22. Could the dark colour of the wax be because of her hair colouring? I don't mean to be rude but I am a retired hairdresser and I have never seen a person of this lady's age to be that dark without a little bit of help!

  23. Have you ever offere ear candling as a wax loosener for patients that are this sensitive? It does take 10 min extra but my clients love and swear by it

  24. OK everybody get off the fact that she was wearing earrings. She knew she was going to be taped and she wanted to look her best. The thought of getting her ears irrigated and having the hoops in the water probably never crossed her mind. Now with that being said yes the doctor could give them a little cup and tell them please if you can remove your jewelry unless you’re comfortable with it then I don’t care.

  25. Had a lady once putting SEASONED olive oil in her ear. That made to a fun syringing! "I thought the herbs would do it good. It smells nice at least!"

  26. Wouldn't a person with such dark wax be advised to apply olive oil a couple of weeks before considering this type of treatment to soften the wax and make it easier to get out?

  27. Why did you not remove her earrings? This bothers me. Also…you are asking her questions and SHE CAN NOT HEAR YOU. Hearing aids.

  28. Why wouldn't you get her to take out her earring before you cleaned it out or why wouldn't she wear studs instead of those big earrings?

  29. I really cannot see why that water gadget has an electric pump incorporated in it making such a noise which is transmitted into the ear. A simple hand piston pump would be silent and fully controlled by the doctor. Sometimes technology is totally unnecessary.

  30. That’s allot of hoopla for such a small amount of wax. Guessing that small amount of wax could have been done without water. All that water could have given a bad case of VERTIGO!

  31. I have black ear wax I've watch this video I think is normal to have it? I was kinda scared to if my ear is gonna bleed again;-;

  32. In my 30+ years of working for physicians, and doing this very procedure myself on young children all the way up to senior citizens, I never saw anyone have that much pain when I was irrigating their ears. I wonder if there was an underlying cause for the pain?

  33. Can't get past the earrings. She's a sweet lady – take out her earrings! OK, going back to Wax Whisperer. Jeez, I've got issues.

  34. I'm sure this Lady has Fibramyalgia. It was very painful for her. Poor thing. I have it but I don't think I can spell it. Lol
