Accused Oregon City shooter in court, victim critical


TODAY, BUT THE ARRAIGNMENT WAS CANCELED BECAUSE HIS LAWYER COULD NOT BE THERE. ON FRIDAY MAY 17, INVESTIGATORS SAY HE CAME TO SCHOOL WITH THE GUN, AND TRIED TO FIRE IT IN THE SCHOOL. BUT THE FOOTBALL AND TRACK COACH OF THEIR TACKLED HIM BEFORE ANY SHOTS WERE FIRED. JEFF: AN OREGON CITY MAN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING HIS ROOMMATE FACED A JUDGE TODAY. 31-YEAR-OLD DANIEL WIESE IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER. JENNIFER: YOU MIGHT REMEMBER THAT WE REPORTED THIS ON FRIDAY. THERE WAS A STANDOFF AND POLICE HAD TO BREAK OUT AN APARTMENT WINDOW HIS ROOMMATE WHO HAD BEEN BADLY HURT. AMY FRAZIER IS LIVE OUTSIDE THE CLACKAMAS COUNTY COURTHOUSE WITH NEW INFORMATION IN THE CASE. REPORTER: WE’VE LEARNED THE VICTIM IN THIS CASE WAS SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES. HE REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION TONIGHT AT THE HOSPITAL. IT ALL UNFOLDED AROUND 3:30 FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MOUNTAIN VIEW APARTMENTS IN OREGON CITY. THE VICTIM, 30-YEAR-OLD ETHAN FAGER CALLED 911 SAYING HIS ROOMMATE SHOT HIM. ARRIVING OFFICERS BROKE OUT A BEDROOM WINDOW TO GET TO HIM OUT AND TO GET HIM TO A HOSPITAL. THE SWAT TEAM ALSO RESPONDED. THEY SET OFF A GAS TO TRY AND GET DANIEL WIESE TO SURRENDER. A TEAM MEMBER ALSO FIRED, BUT WIESE WASN’T HIT. HE EVENTUALLY CAME OUT THE BACK OF THE APARTMENT. OFFICERS USED LESS LETHAL FORCE, AND TOOK HIM INTO CUSTODY. DURING THE INCIDENT A NEIGHBOR WAS ARRIVING HOME, WHEN HE GOT A NERVOUS CALL FROM HIS WIFE. SHE SAID THAT POLICE WERE OUT HERE AND SHE WAS COMING OUT TO DO LAUNDRY AND THEY TOLD HER TO GET BACK IN, GET DOWN. SHE DIDN’T KNOW IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO GET IN OR NOT. REPORTER: INVESTIGATORS LOOKING INTO THE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING PART OF THE INCIDENT ARE ASKING ANYONE WITH PHOTOS OR VIDEO OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING BEFORE AND WHEN THE SWAT TEAM ARRIVED TO CONTACT THE CLACKAMAS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. MEANWHILE, WIESE IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER, ASSAULT AND UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON. HE’S BEING HELD IN JAIL WITHOUT BAIL. HE’LL BE BACK IN COURT ON JUNE 4. LIVE IN OREGON CITY, AMY
