한의학으로 동상 치료를?! 과연 가능할까? – 쥬팬더의 건강 & 의학 상식

Doctor said that I should amputate my toes Skin was being dying
and toes needed to be amputated At the first time, it was hard to believe ‘How can acupuncture cure frostbite?’ There were tens of needles on my toes Left – Antipyrotic KMD(Korean Medicine Doctor)
Right – Frostbite treatment KMD There are popular pictures in the internet – Treating frostbite..
– Yeah, the fabrication People aregue with it saying it’s fabrication or not… About treating frostbite… You know him personally, right? No Then How did he come to you? He’s from clpine club of Kyungpook National University Makalu of Himalaya He climbed Makalu successfully and he got frostbite 6 toes got frostbite severely Doctor of Seoul National University Hospital said
3 toes should be amputated so he kept taking treatment there He was about to amputate But there was a person whom I cured his frostbite He is Captain Hong Bin Kim There are 14 peaks above 8,000m altitude on Himalaya
He conquered 13 peaks of them with challenged body He was the first person
who cured his frostbite at my clinic He got frostbite at nose and ears Doctors said he should amputate them but he cured the frostbite treating 2 months with me Since then he has been connecting people with frostbite
to my clinic and today’s person also met me by his introduction At the first time, he came with crutches
bandaging his feet He was like critical patient I made him take them off There is no patient’s room in my clinic so he was hospitalized near hospital
and I treated him twice a day As a result, his frostbite was all cured I’ve forgotten it but these days young people came to my clinic
like pilgrimage They said it was pilgrimage So I searched it on the internet and I found he posted his treatment
on a large community site saying ‘hospital said to amputate, but my frostbite has been all cured by acupuncture After then watched comments people were saying it’s manipulated It has been an issue coincidentally Before treatment 13th June 14th June 15th June 16th June 20th June 21th June 27th June 29th June 8th July 14th July 28th July 29th July 16th August After 2 months Manipulation argument of frostbite treatment
Fact Check
and Now? [Is it manipulated?] Yes, I’m the one who posted it,
because it’s my story I posted it with some pictures on a writing community and I found that my post was being argued People reproduced my post to other communities [About at that time] It was 2011 I went to Makalu with an expedition team From the day before clmibing top, I felt bad with my feet Climbing to the top at dawn I thought I got a frostbite I kept climbing 1~2 hours more,
and it was about 3~4 a.m. I was afraid thinking ‘what if I have to amputate?’ Anyway, I successfully conquered Makalu
saying to myself ‘it would be OK’ Luckily I got to the top and my ankle and feet started to hurt
during way down At that time, I was tired and my whole body was in pain So I couldn’t care my feet and I got down to the camp 1 At the camp 1 it was hard to move my body I limped until I got the base camp
and I called help there a crew came to me and gave his arm to me to the ground My feet were swollen a lot There was no skin color change,
but my feet were swollen as big as 4 feet crew said it’s frostbite So for several days I warmed my feet in the warm water It was so painful I was the youngest one there,
when my crew were awake I put my feet into warm water at night I got into sleeping bag and the pain was too severe I yelled and cursed crying all night and after my crew fell into sleep I got out of the camp and I buried my feet into snow Pain was gone when my feet were in the snow and when it became morning my crew made me put my feet into warm water again and the pain begins At last I was not able to walk down and I got to the ground by taking helicopter
waiting 3 days For 3 days I buried my feet into snow every night I think I made my feet worse [How did you treat at the first time?] I got down to Kathmandu with heli and I stayed several days in a hospital there After I arrived Korea, I went to 2 hospitals at Daegu I went to a university hospital which is introduced as good frostbite treating hospital Doctor said there would be no hospital which can cure this level of frostbite here, The doctor introduced a private hospital
so I went there but there, doctor also said he has never treated
this severe level of frostbite I spent several days with doing nothing The doctor wasn’t active to treat my feet
he just gave some antibiotics I spent 2~3 days at the private hospital Then my friends heard of my situation and introduced another hospital which is well known as treating frostbite so I started to treat there Doctor at the hospital was active to treat my feet saying ‘let’s look several days’ I got IV, I think it was antibiotics I’m not sure about that I was taking antibiotic pills About treatment.. mostly I treated my feet There was a small room next to nurses office whan it was time, I went to the room and a nurse prepared warm saline solution and bandage I put my feet into the warm saline solution and then I bandaged feet myself
because I learned first aid I treated twe times a day like this It was all I did I stayed there about a week After a week Doctor said amputation might be needed I had 3 toes with frostbite for each foot Right one was severer Color was black just like it’s burnt He said ‘it’s not sure whether frostbite reached to bone’ ‘We should look at them carefully for days’ ‘but I think flesh in front of the bone
should be amputated’ ‘long toe should be amputated’ ‘middle toe also may be needed amputation
but let’s see some more days’ the doctor set surgery date in 1.5 months I don’t know whether he was busy or it is normal procedure [How did I visit the clinic] When I heard of surgery date I went to the KMD I made a Korean friend in Nepal
and he called me after hearing of my situation He said ‘there is a KMD studying about frostbite
and he cured several people’ This is how I met him At the first time, I wasn’t sure about him Treating feet with acupuncture seemed not promising The university hospital was big and well equipped… I contacted him when I was treating in the hospital I was thinking not to visit him
if I didn’t have to amputate my toes Contacts were just for the sake of formality But I got a surgery date and
there was time about a month I told him about my situation and he said ‘why don’t you drop by here, just in case’ I went to his clinic way down to my home after he saw my feet, he said ‘if you came earlier…’ ‘you could have cured your feet certainly’
‘If you had less antibiotics… it would be better’ ‘But it’s not too late, we have to start right now’ he said So I started treatment staying nearby hospital [How was it?] I got acupuncture and moxibustion twice a day He put tens of needles on my toes It took about two hours for each treatment
and I had it twice a day, morning and evening This routine took about a month and after a month, he said it’s OK to come once a week from now on After about a month of treatment Skin’s black color started to disappear
and I could see new flesh was filling my toe again After three months, my toes had become bit shorter but my toes were almost cured
looking like healthy toes [What made you to take Korean Medicine?] When I was in a big hospital I treated myself and I felt something weird Well, I’m not a doctor I thought I could do it myself at home It didn’t seem like proper treatment I still had belief but when I heard of amputation.. At the first time doctor said
amputation would be not needed and then I wanted to go to more hospitals When I first met the KMD After I talked to him,
I felt that he’s an honest person I trusted him because he was earnest and he barely took expenses He paid most of my room charge It’s certain that meeting me has nothing to do with making money on the contrary he supported financially and I felt that he’s doing best to cure my frostbite After 2 weeks of treatment, I could see something positive is happening with my feet It was hard to get the treatment, but when I began the treatment, I felt nothing When he put needles on my toes saying this is bone,
I felt absolutely nothing but after one week and two weeks, I started to feel pain, a severe pain other people were yelling and crying but I tried to put myself together and he said ‘you’re taking it well, it must be painful’ And when I couldn’t suppress my groaning,
twisting my body, he said ‘that’s good’ ‘toes are struggling to survive’ and he put more needles on my toes… I think spending 3~4 hours a day for one person,
it’s something Now, I think he’s my savior [Treatment period and current status] I don’t remember precisely, but
it took 3~4 months He said to come often,
but since I got better, I became lazy There is no problem with daily life In first 2~3 years, I felt a lot of pain with my toes on right foot
whenever early winter came So I had to do venesection After 3 years of treatment, It barely happens I think there is no problem Here, long toe is the one
doctor said it should be amputated and after the treatment it bacame shorter actually Middle toe was severe so it also became
little shorter Slightly shorter It doesn’t look like that, does it? This long toe used to be longer Left foot also got frostbite This is the original size of long toe This long These 6 toes got frostbite and this toe has been shorten Q. Is sensation of toes OK? Yes, It seems alright I had hard time for 3 years after the treatment
and now everything is fine
